We work with both the Macintosh and PC platforms and accept files in the popular (and some not-so-popular) formats listed below. To help ensure the files you send have all the information we need to process them quickly, we’ve included some helpful hints to assist you in preparing your files. But be assured, should you have questions about matters not covered on this page, our expert Production Coordinators are just a phone call, or an
email, away.
Litho Label and Folding Carton Files
- Corrugated labels and bleeds should extend 3/8” or more beyond all scores and knife cuts.
- Critical copy should be placed ¼” or more from scores and knife cuts.
- Electronic files should be accompanied by either a digital hard copy or an Acrobat file.
- For enhancement purposes, a 30% cyan should be placed under rich blacks.
- Label jobs require sufficient room on lead-edge for bleed plus press gripper.
Images
- All close-cuts should be created in Photoshop as clipping paths.
- DCS Photoshop files (JPEGs) should not be compressed
- DCS, EPS, JPEG or TIFFS are all acceptable.
- Files should have only the necessary spot channels.
- Images should be cropped to the approximate cropping size in the document.
- Images should be specified as CMYK, tritons, duotones or 5 color DCS2 files.
- JPEG files should not be placed in Illustrator.
- Total ink density in any specific area should be 360% or less.
Fonts
- All fonts should be saved in a font folder.
- Both screen and printer fonts should be included.
- True Fonts® will not work. If you must, outline any True Fonts using Illustrator.
Color and Low Resolution Positional Proofs
- For optimal prepress proof evaluation, tint values (of 100% - 95% - 75% - 50% - 25% - 5%) for each color should be included with color accurate proofs.
- For positioning purposes, the low resolution proof should be 100% size with the “die line” overprinting the art.
- Production Mylar’s (vinyl) should be keyed for position to the content proof.
- To ensure angle accuracy, the size reduction and screen angles of color proof should be included.
If you’re using Illustrator (up to CS3) files...
- Any reverse type should be in 6 points or greater.
- Any Serif type should be 10 points or greater.
- Any unused colors should be deleted from the file.
- Illustrator files should be saved in Illustrator “with placed images” as one file -- EPS or TIFF. (Illustrator does not separate duotones well when saved in an embedded file.)
- llustrator fonts should be supplied in a font folder.
- Make sure color names in both Illustrator and QuarkXPress are the same.
- Trappings should be 0.008 inches and handled “with type outlined”.
- When possible, a single color ink should be used for small type.
If you’re using Quark...
- Documents should be sent at 100% of “Final Trim Size,” or should be accompanied with a hard copy that indicates the enlargement/reduction factor.
- Include a list of extensions used in Native program.
- Make sure all fonts are saved in a font folder.
- QuarkXPress V6 and below, trapping for most type is 0.4pt.
- Supplying printed copies of the document is always helpful (either via overnight or scanned images of printed output).
- Use the collect for output function to make certain all necessary images, fonts, etc. are included.
If you’re using PC Software...
- Font files should be outlined in file.
- Corel Draw file should be saved as an Illustrator 8. EPS file.
